Deloris J. Ahmad

Deloris J. Ahmad (nee Johnsen), 79, of Union Grove, passed away on May 11, 2012 at East Troy Manor. She was born September 26, 1932 to Herman and Soffie (nee Christopherson) Johnsen in Racine, Wisconsin. Deloris married James Ahmad and together they raised three children during their 56 years together.

Deloris was well known for baking homemade cakes in different shapes and flavors for ALL occasions – Danish Layer Cakes were her specialty and her sweet treats will be greatly missed. Her first job was for Western Printing as a book binder/ wrapper. She was a wonderful cook, working for many years for El-Wals Restaurant in Sturtevant, Char’s Pot Belly Café in Kansasville, and Ivy House, Main Street, Union Grove. Deloris loved doing crafts including painting wooden ornaments that Jim made. She also enjoyed the many years of late night card games with Jim and their family and friends. After moving into East Troy Manor she continued her crafting hobby and she became a game addict playing Pokeno, Bingo, Yahtzee, and Kizmit. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed flowers and continued her love of gardening at the Manor.

Deloris is survived by her children, Joe (Brenda) Ahmad, Shirly (Robert) Meyer, and Michel Ahmad, her grandchildren, Tom (Jenny) Ahmad, Tiffany (Marcel) Kremser, Chris (Nikki) Caskey, Cyndi (Brian) Mantey, Britny Ahmad, and Coty White, her great-grandchildren, Kaleb Caskey and Braxton Ahmad, her step-grandchild, Robyn Bednarek and her children, James and Corryn Bednarek, and Jaime Meyer. Deloris is further survived by her siblings: Marcy Nelson, Virginia Webster, Colonel (Virginia) Johnson, and June “Boots” Ellis and James’ siblings: Ed (Marcella) Ahmad, Mary (Richard) Moldenauer, and his brother-in-law, Del Ehni, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Deloris was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents, her siblings, Harold Johnson, Mabel (Loyal) Phetteplace, Ginevra (Louie) Planert, Myrtle Cogswell, Howard (Bev) Johnson, Leroy (Marie) Johnson, Opal Butterfield, Arvid Nelson, and Al Webster, and Jim’s siblings, Thomas “Omar” Ahmad, Allie (Beate) Ahmad, Shareef Ahmad, and Shareefa Ehni, and many other friends and relatives.

The family would like to thank ALL of the staff members at East Troy Manor for their compassionate care to mom. Mom may have given you a run for your money but she loved you all and considered East Troy Manor her home. She really enjoyed her time living there and making new friendships with Bertha, Ted, Jack, her kitchen girls, nurses, aides, activity girls, and office staff. The family would also like to thank Vitas Hospice.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 12 noon – 2 pm at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home with a Memorial Service to begin at 2 pm. Private burial will be at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery on a later date.
