Darrell R. Hay, 80, of the Town of Paris, passed peacefully into his eternal life on July 17, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 12, 1933 to the late Darrell and Thelma (nee Morgan) Hay in Racine, WI. A proud Army Veteran, he served during the Korean War. Darrell married the love of his life, Enola Erickson, on August 16, 1952 at Paris Corners Methodist Church. During their almost 61 year marriage, they raised four daughters together. Darrell supported his family working as a carpenter.
Darrell was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, especially turkeys, and fishing. He was a member of the NRA, as well. He was a talented craftsman and handy man who enjoyed wood carving: making decoys, turkey calls, and chainsaw carvings. He built a cabin “up North” where he and Enola enjoyed dividing their time between living there and in Union Grove.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Enola; their children, Diane (John) Dahl, Cheryl (Ken) Gilbert, Sue (Jerry) Williams, and Julie (Jerry) Lambrecht; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and his sister, Ruth Mullikin.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; his nephew, Larry Mullikin; and his brothers-in-law, Jerry Mullikin and Marvin Erickson.
Visitation for Darrell’s family and friends will be held at the Union Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 10 am – 12 noon. The funeral service officiated by Pastor George Schlagel will begin at 12 noon. Full military honors will immediately follow at the Church. Private burial will take place at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
