Union Grove – Adkins D. Thompson "Sarge", age 90, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Wisconsin Veterans Home. He was born on October 28, 1926 in Baldwin, MS to parents Lon and Donna (nee. Nichols) Thompson and attended Pratts School in Baldwin. On May 11, 1949, Sarge married the love of his life, Mae Yancey, and together, raised a family.

Sarge was very proud of his military service. He served in World War II with the Army and the Korean War with the Navy. After the military, he worked at the MacWhyte Wire Rope Co. in Kenosha and retired after working there for over 30 years.

When he wasn't working and after retiring, he loved to hunt and fish. Sarge trained his dogs for hunting, specifically, German shorthairs and was featured in Outdoor Wisconsin with them. On any warm day, you could see him working or tinkering on something, particularly lawnmowers. In June 2015, Sarge had the privilege of going on an Honor Flight to Washington DC. He loved to sit on his swing, too, and wave to people passing by. Sarge will always be remembered for his generosity towards anyone and his quick wit.

Sarge is survived by his loving wife, Mae; his daughters, Patty (Lee) Demant and Monica (Dale) Welke; grandchildren, Cary Madrigal, Josh (Lauren) Demant, Beth and Kelsey Welke; great-grandchildren, Paige (Tate Koester) and Dawson Demant, Nathan, Linzy, and Katie Madrigal; and many other family and friends.

Visitation for Sarge's family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday, February 27, 2017 from 8-10am, with funeral services beginning at 10:00, officiated by Pastor Seth LaBounty. Burial with full military honors will immediately follow at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
