It is with profound love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of Bettie Racy Madson, who was born on September 22, 1932, in Tomah, Wisconsin to Bertha Kidrick Bohm and Robert Bohm. She passed away February 15, 2026. A cherished wife, devoted daughter, and beloved aunt, Bettie made a lasting impact on everyone who crossed her path. She was a bright light in the lives of many and will be deeply missed.

In her younger years, Bettie nurtured her musicality by playing the French Horn in the band and participating in Vocal Music.... she loved singing and carried her love of classic country music throughout her life.  She was always very fashionable and was an excellent seamstress.  She cultivated a love for cats, plants, and the joy of cooking. Bettie was known for her tremendous culinary skills and hosted many memorable gatherings and dinner parties that brought friends together.

A member of the Tomah High School Class of 1950, Bettie began working during the Korean Conflict at Camp McCoy. She later worked in administrative roles in the insurance industry, ultimately retiring from the Snow White Garment Factory. Bettie began a half century romance when she married Richard "Dick" Madson on November 20, 1954, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Milwaukee.

Bettie traveled extensively, cherishing special trips to Hawaii for her brother's retirement and her 50th wedding anniversary, as well as a memorable trip to Ireland, where she developed a deep appreciation for Waterford Crystal. She enjoyed many trips to Door County to visit friends and family, always bringing her laughter and spirit along. A Wisconsin sport enthusiast, she celebrated the wins and showed her support for the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers. Her honesty and great sense of humor endeared her to many, as did her passion for antiquing and spending time in the sun by the water "up North."

Bettie is survived by her sister, Mary Bohm Schmidt of Oshkosh; sister-in-law, Connie Bohm of Tomah; two nieces, Anne Schmidt Bang and Susan Schmidt Gullickson; special friend and advocate, Kathy Intravaia; as well as brother-in-law: Robert Volnec, and sister-in-law: Gloria (Ralph) Haas. She leaves behind a host of beloved neighbors and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Bettie was preceded in death by her husband, Dick (Richard) and her parents.

A celebration of Bettie's life will take place at Prairie Home Cemetery Chapel on Friday, February 20 from 11-11:45 am. A prayer service will begin at 11:45 with burial immediately following. Friends and family are invited to gather to honor her memory and share stories of the joy she brought into their lives. We invite attendees to join in remembering her by enjoying some classic hits from Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Waylon, and Willie.

Rest in peace, dear Bettie. You will forever remain in our hearts.
