Bruce P. Menzel's Obituary

Bruce Philip Menzel, 92 years old, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Center in Union Grove, Wisconsin. His wife, Eileen (Knudtson) Menzel, preceded him in death by 12 years.

Born in Park Falls, Wisconsin, he was the son of Carl W. Menzel and Alice Bruce Menzel, long time residents of Stevens Point, WI. Bruce moved with his family to Stevens Point when he was 11 years old and graduated from PJ Jacobs High School. He earned his Bachelor's Degree at the Central State Teachers' College at Stevens Point, where he lettered in basketball and golf. Between high school and earning his college degree, he served in WWII, as a member of the United States Army Air Force.

Bruce was an avid golfer, earning spending money by caddying at the Stevens Point Country Club. He met Eileen Knudtson while they both attended college and they quickly became inseparable. They played their summer days away at Dings Dock on the Chain-o-Lakes in Waupaca. Bruce married his sweetheart Eileen in 1951 and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where they had three daughters, Sandra, Marcia and Cara. After teaching 6th grade for three years, he transitioned to Sit-n-Rest Golf, a company that aligned with his passions. While he began in sales, he eventually took ownership of the company and served as the president and CEO. After retirement, he moved back to Stevens Point, WI, where he lived until 2014, when he moved to the Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Home in Union Grove to be closer to his daughters.

Bruce will be remembered by his family for his eternal optimism, his never-ending expression of gratitude, seeing the best in every person, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his passion for every sport relating to a ball, especially golf! He enjoyed playing bridge, poker, pinochle, and a multitude of other card games, even enjoying an occasional game of UNO with his great grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandra Menzel Ripplinger, Superior, CO; Marcia Menzel Isherwood (Joel), Brookfield, WI; Cara Menzel Cozine (Michael), Kenosha, WI; 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; his sister, Vera Eichstaedt of Tomah, WI and his brother, Gerald Menzel, of Bonita Springs, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Eileen; his parents, Carl Menzel and Alice Bruce Menzel; two sisters, Jane Burgess and Betty Alleman and his brother, Harold (Bud) Menzel.

A "Night to Remember Bruce" visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the historic "Hose Tower" at 5699 Parking Street, in Greendale, WI, 53129, from 6 - 8 pm. A private family interment and memorial will occur on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Arlington Park Cemetery in Greenfield, WI.
