Union Grove- Conrad "Connie" R. Martin, 88, was called to eternal life by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 4, 2017. He was born September 29, 1929 to Frank and Louise (nee Weis) Martin in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Park High School in 1948 where he was on the State Championship Golf Team and was recently inducted into the Park High School Hall of Fame. Connie attended Dominican College, Long Beach City College, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Banking. Connie was a proud veteran having served seven years in the National Guard – 32nd Division attaining the rank of Sergeant. Connie was employed in the Banking Industry for 45 years retiring in 1993 as Vice President of Community State Bank. He was President of the Union Grove Chamber of Commerce, Treasurer of Union Grove Lions Club for 22 years, and received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Connie was a member of St. Robert's Parish in Union Grove for 45 years and served on the financial committee. He was a member of the school board for Union Grove High School for two terms. As a member of the Chamber of Commerce he was awarded the Community Service Award-Individual.

Connie endured many health challenges including a heart transplant in 1998.

Connie was a natural athlete, excelling at golf for many years. He was always up for a game of cribbage and ready for his 4:00 pm Brandy Manhattan. But most of all he cherished his hunting expeditions with his sons, Gary and Steve. He shot three deer with his crossbow at age 87 in a blind built especially for him by his son, Gary. He lived for "his garden" and also spent many good times fishing with his sons and grandchildren.

Connie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Sylvia; their children, Gary, Lynn (Jim) Filipek, Steven (Carol), and Thom (Sherry); grandchildren, Colleen (Dave) Eland, Troy (Lisa) Filipek, Nick Martin, Logan (Rebecca) Martin, Jake (Nicole) Martin; great-grandchildren, Landon and Reed Eland, and Lauren and Austin Filipek; and step-grandchildren, Allison, Colleen, Shawn, Shannon, Brianna, Kevin, Brandy, Jessica, Kayla, and Michael. He is also survived by his sisters, Jeanette (Joe) Powell, Helen (Roger) Higgins, and Therese DuPlayee; Sylvia's siblings, John (Claire) Jacobs, Karen Weaver, Dale (Roberta) Jacobs, and Andrea (Jim) Sherman; and Sylvia's cousin, Vina Jacobs.

Connie was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Louise; step-grandson, Ryan Wiswell; siblings, Marion Carter, Frank, and John; and Sylvia's parents, Melvin and Ingrid Jacobs.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nella Aiello, their neighbor, for her loving and caring kindness.

Visitation will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine Church on Friday, November 10 from 9:30 am -12 noon. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 noon. Burial at West Lawn Cemetery will follow at 3 pm.
The family suggests that donations be made in Connie's honor to St. Robert Bellarmine Church, The American Heart Association, and the Wisconsin Bowhunters' Association.
