Oak Creek - David Schmid, 68, passed away peacefully at his home on May 21, 2017. He was born April 23, 1949 to Elroy and Ethel (nee Podkomorski) in Milwaukee, WI. David was a proud Vietnam Veteran, having served in the US Navy on the USS Duncan and the Samuel Gompers during two tours in Vietnam. He joined the State Honor Guard and was part of the Bayview VFW Post 2879 and Charles Fidler VFW Post 9469 prior to that. He was honored to be a member of the Military Order of the Cootie and a trustee for the National VFW Home for Children. David loved baseball and umpired for Oak Creek Little League Baseball and also for the Spanish Minor League. He was a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed cooking and fishing. David was best friend of "Animal" and "Pedro" and other past four legged friends including dogs, Bandit and Nova, Ursa Major, Nutmeg, and Jake, and Kelly, and cats, Pumpkin, Axel X, Jazz, Laurel and Hardy, and guinea pig, Digas MO.

David is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Ann-Marie (Michael Jenkins) Schmid, Ryan Schmid (Danielle Cooke), and Joshua (Dawn) Schmid; grandchildren, Clayton and Eva; sister, Judith A. Boll; nephew, Alex Boll; sisters-in-law, Carol Ryback and Mary Ann Carr; and niece Emily (Jake) Woelfel.

David was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, David Boll, and nephew, Christopher Boll.

Visitation will be held at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 30 from 4-7 pm and again Wednesday, May 31 from 10-11 am. Memorial service will begin at 11 am. Burial with full military honors will follow at 12 noon at the Southern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial Cemetery.
