Edith Jo Ludwig, age 91, of Union Grove, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Edith was born on September 16, 1934, to William Himebauch and Lorraine Dutcher. She grew up in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1952. After high school, Edith attended the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, where she earned her bachelor's degree in special education in 1970.

Edith dedicated much of her life to education and service. She taught special education for 26 years, touching the lives of many students and families. She also enjoyed spending her summers working as a camp counselor at Easter Seal Camp and Camp Waubeek in the Wisconsin Dells, where she continued her passion for helping and encouraging others.

In 1957, Edith married the love of her life, Alvin Ludwig. Together they built a life centered on family, love, and care for others.

Edith will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Tami (Steve) Soetenga; her grandchildren, David (Nicole Luplow) Soetenga, Allie (Ben) Zusan, and Kasey Ludwig; and her great-grandchildren, Henry, Emerson, and Keats Zusan, and Makayle, Kaylani, and Kaydence Ludwig. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Ellen (Eric) Larson and Alice Ludwig, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin Ludwig; her daughter, Lori Ludwig; her brothers, Fred, Kenneth, Leroy, and Charles; and her sisters, Ruth and Inez, as well as many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Per Edith's wishes, there will be no formal visitation or service. The family will hold a private gathering when Edith and Alvin are laid to rest together at their final resting place at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.

Edith's kindness, dedication to others, and love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.
