Union Grove – Geraldine Ann Yates, age 89, passed away on February 17, 2025, at her residence. She was born on September 13, 1935, to parents Conrad and Hilda (nee. Fritzler) Van Swol. Geraldine graduated from Union Grove High School in 1953. She retired from RUSD Food Service after 30 years and enjoyed baking pies for Apple Holler. Geraldine was devoted to her faith and was a member of Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church.

Geraldine is survived by her children, Barbara (Tom) Rinke and Mark (Debbie) Yates; grandchildren, Shane Hubeler (Amanda Manke), Shylia Hubeler (Eric Anderson), Rachel Rinke, and Megan Rinke;  three step grandchildren; one great grandchild, Kodi; seven step great grandchildren; siblings, Henry (Joan) Van Swol, Harold Van Swol, Marilyn McGovern, Jean Van Swol, John (Sharon) Van Swol; sister-in-laws Judy Van Swol, Brenda Van Swol; special family friend Dennis; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, James; son, Dale Yates; and daughter, Sharon Yates – Distad; parents, Conrad and Hilda (Fritzler) Van Swol; brothers, Gerald Van Swol, Conrad Van Swol and sisters Margaret Leonard and Dorothy Ellis.

A visitation will be held at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home on February 22, 2025, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. with services beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at a later date.
