Gertrude A. Nelson (Hubmann), 93, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, surrounded by her family's love. She was born on March 8, 1932, to George and Clara (Fritsch) Hubmann. She married Kenneth Nelson on June 6, 1980, and they were married for over 40 years until his death in 2021. Gertrude was a wonderful, loving mother and wife who made home a welcoming and happy place.

She is survived by her children, Jane (Harold) Perry, Judith (Joseph) Rousar, Jim (Cyndi) Braun, and Jeff (Stephanie) Braun; 9 grandchildren: Kristine (Scott), Ann (Ryan), Jason (Ashleigh), Ashley (Nick), Hailey (Rachael), Craig, Cory (Jill), Amanda (Matt) and Adam (Danielle); and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, and her parents.

Gertrude and her family want to sincerely thank the following people whom she appreciated so much: her daughter, Judy, for the time she spent with her over the last years, making sure she had everything she needed; her granddaughter, Amanda Nehring, who provided extraordinary care, love and support leading up to an during the final months of  Gertrude's life; Christine Paulina, for her kindness and care. Nurse Claudia Conley from Aurora Home Hospice who was a true blessing to Gertrude, offering a comforting presence when it was most needed; and finally, her son, Jeff and daughter-in-law, Stephanie, who graciously welcomed her into her home, caring for her with loving kindness and compassion during her last months. The warmth of their home allowed her family to gather more frequently, bringing joy to Gertrude's days as she enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. For this we are truly grateful.

Our Mom will be profoundly missed, but she leaves a legacy of love that will be remembered by her family and all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, in memory of Gertrude.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, January 22 from 10 am – 12 noon at St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12 noon. Burial next to Kenneth will immediately follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.
