Racine – Gregg Hermann, 72, passed away May 11, 2022 at his home.  He was born December 12, 1949 to David and Carol (Mickelson) Hermann.  Gregg was very proud of graduating college. He was the first member of his family to do so and he went into the army in order to attend school on the G.I. Bill. He often credits the additional maturity and experience he gained in the military as allowing him to stay more focused, and determined in his studies, where he excelled. He would often discuss an experience that happened to him earlier in life. An individual he was working with, related how as an employee with a skill to offer employers, was paid for what he knew, not what he did. Gregg would often say, "Get paid for what you know, not what you do."

The majority of Gregg's career he taught locally at St. Joseph School and St. Catherine High School in Racine and Thomas Moore High School in Milwaukee.  The last years of his teaching were spent abroad in Alaska and Germany. Gregg was a great teacher. He made a difference in people's lives.

Knowledgeable, engaging, and authentic, Gregg was highly intelligent. He was also practical and had no use for superficiality or fly-by-night fads. He was well traveled and kept a social circle of meaningful relations; when it came to friends and associates, it was quality over quantity that mattered. Mysteries, Gardening, Watching Sports, Traveling, Reading, and Crossword Puzzles were some of his favorite ways to pass his free time.

Gregg loved the bald eagle, for its freedom, nobility, and independence. As a gardening enthusiast, he may not have had a particular favorite. Gregg understood the challenges of horticulture and respected the conditions that placed limitations on gardening like soil, weather, irrigation, pruning, and predators.

Gregg is survived by his sons, Jamie Hermann and Jasen Hermann; Jamie's fiancé, Joyce Williamson; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hermann; mother, Carol; and siblings, Daryl Hermann, Wendy Hermann, Cory Lueck, Quint Hermann, Heidi (Wally) Wiegand.

Gregg was preceded in death by his father, David.

Burial with full military honors at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery on June 23, 2022 at 9 am.  A celebration of his life will be held later that day from 6-9 pm at Franksville Memorial Park.
