Union Grove – Hazel T. Gibbs, age 84, passed away at Oak Ridge Care Center on March 29, 2023. She was born on September 16, 1938, to parents Adolf and Therese Schmid. Hazel was a great, strong, single mother and worked hard to provide for her children. She worked as a waitress for many years. She enjoyed doing crafts such as painting pictures and ceramics and loved eating pop tarts. Above all, Hazel loved spending time with her family and will be missed by many.

Hazel is survived by her children, Mark (Pam) Gibbs, Linda Gibbs, Mary Gibbs, Susie (Tim) Westlake and Lisa Broadway; grandchildren, Aaron, Amanda, Chelsea, Terri, Joey, Jacob, Katrina, Jessica, Adam, Tommy, Kristina, Elizabeth, Marshall, and Joshua; many great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and son in law, Paul Unsworth.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; son, Scott Gibbs; daughter, Heather Unsworth; great grandson, Kendall; sister, Cecelia Balmes; and son in law, Thomas McCray.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on April 5 ^th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm with a funeral service to begin at noon. Burial at Yorkville Cemetery will immediately follow.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at Oak Ridge Care Center for all the kindness and care they showed Hazel.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to St Jude's in honor of Hazel.
