Irene Proud
1929 – 2017
Irene (Kendall) Proud, 88, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2017, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove, WI.
Irene was born January 16, 1929, in Wilsden, England. The daughter of the late Joseph and Ivy (Taylor) Kendall, Irene grew up in Wilsden in a large, loving family of 9 brothers and sisters. Irene joined the Air Force (NAAFI) in England where she met her husband, James. James was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. After serving in the Forces, Irene and James relocated to James' hometown, Grand Rapids, Minnesota. They eventually moved to Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin where they lived for 57 years.
Irene was a beautiful, talented and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Irene enjoyed knitting, reading, crossword puzzles, baking and visiting family in England, California and Texas. Her greatest joy of all was spending time with her family. Irene was a great storyteller, sharing times when she grew up in England. Her sense of humor was a wonderful gift to all who knew her. Irene worked at Anchor Hocking Glass Company, Gurnee, IL for many years and Budgetel Hotel where she retired in 1990. The fond memories of Irene will always be deeply engraved in our hearts. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Irene is survived by her husband, James; 3 daughters, Ann (late James) Jolicoeur , Lynn (Donnie) Wilburn; Donna Binninger; 2 sons, James (Vicky) Proud, Jr., and Joseph Proud; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Margaret Kendall, Texas; Evelyn Wright, England; 2 brothers, Derek and Ernie Kendall, England, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Ivy Kendall; 3 sisters, Ethel Charnley; Francis Hoy; Dorothy Stead; 2 brothers, Ben and Jack Kendall, England.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to all the staff at Wisconsin Veterans Home and Hospice for the incredible care that they have given to Irene.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 1 pm at Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery, Union Grove. Her interment will take place immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, with the hope of one day finding a cure for this debilitating disease. The Miller-Reesman Funeral Home of Union Grove is serving the family.
