Union Grove - James Ivan Spangler, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away March 23, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on December 24, 1931, in Wisconsin to Ivan and Edith (nee: Stromquist) Spangler, James lived a life rich in family, faith, and passion for the great outdoors.

James graduated from Bradford High School in 1950 and dedicated his professional life to WE Energies, where he served as a service center analyst in the Kenosha area until his retirement in 1992. Following his years of service, he embraced retirement by pursuing his interests in fishing, gardening, camping, and travel. He was united in marriage to Jo Ann Barnes on September 17, 1983, and they honeymooned in Hawaii. He cherished unforgettable adventures to destinations such as Door County, Greece, Italy, England, and Scotland. After retirement, he would enjoy the winters in Sebring Florida in a retirement community.

James was a devoted family man, survived by his loving wife, Jo-Ann (nee: Burns) Spangler, and their children: Daniel (Margo) Spangler, Linda (Curtis) Johnson, Billiam (Teri) Barnes, and Brian Barnes. His legacy is further carried on by his cherished grandchildren: Brandon (Leah) Barnes, Steven Barnes, Caleb Struck, Jeremy Barnes, Joshua (Chelsie) Barnes, Cassandra Barnes, Abigail Bergeron, Autumn Bergeron, Brittany (Joe) Stonebaker, David (Kellie) Johnson, Lucas (Alyssa) Johnson, Mitchell (Emilee) Johnson, and Matthew Spangler. James was also a proud great-grandfather to Madison and Branson Barnes, Audriana, Sophia, and Wyatt Struck, William, Claire, Killian, Fiona Barnes, Kaylee, Paul, Aniah, Elijah, and Charis Johnson. He is further survived by his special niece, Lisa Shimek; sister in law, Pat (Terry) Behm; and mother of his children, Janet Musselman, along with many friends and family who will miss him dearly.

A faithful member of The Tabernacle Church in Kenosha, formerly known as The Baptist Tabernacle, James served on the board of trustees and as Sunday School Superintendent. His love for music shone as he participated in the church choir, lifting spirits through song. In recent years, he shared his creative talents with loved ones by knitting Packers scarves, showcasing his support for his favorite team.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Edith.

Visitation for James will be held at The Tabernacle in Kenosha on Friday March 28, from 12 pm to 2 pm, located at 7951 36th Ave, Kenosha, WI 53142. A service celebrating his life will commence at 2 pm, followed by a procession to his final resting place at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, located at 4300 Green Bay Rd, Kenosha, WI 53144.

In honoring James's memory, we remember not just the years he lived but the love he shared and the joy he brought to our lives. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
