Janice M. Schulien

Janice Marie Schulien, 89, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026. She was born on July 19, 1937, to the late Herman and Lenora Schulien in Lima, OH.

She attended Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, earning her degree in 1958, Mary Manse College of Toledo for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1972, and the University of Toledo for a Master of Education, Counseling & Guidance in 1981.

Janice devoted her life to helping others, be it family, friends, or the many people she worked with and cared for during her long career in the nursing field. She made an impression on countless people, sharing her sense of humor, kindness, boundless optimism, and ability to comfort others with her warm heartedness.

Her home and heart were always welcoming. She had a great fondness for and adopted many dogs during her lifetime, and each one held a special place in her life. She also had a lifelong love of skiing, a passion she shared with friends in the Toledo Ski Club and passed on to her many nieces and nephews by teaching them to ski.

After retirement, she began her second act as an artist, taking many classes at the University of Toledo and pursuing a long-held dream to paint, and exhibiting her paintings at art fairs.

A special thank you to all who helped Janice in her last years at Oak Park Place in Burlington, WI and St. Croix Hospice for their excellent and loving care.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and her memory will live on through the many lives she touched. Especially through the joy she gave to her nieces and nephews, with every laugh, hug and memory of times spent together.

Burial of her ashes with her family at Gethsemani Cemetery in Lima, Ohio will take place at a later date and will be posted here once plans are finalized.
