Union Grove – John Alan Weiss, age 86, passed away on October 29, 2024, at his residence surrounded by family. He was born on June 4, 1938, to parents Walter and Margaret (nee. Petersen) Weiss. John was a proud Air Force Veteran, serving for three and a half years and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. John married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Meerschert, on April 11, 1958, and together they raised three sons.  He worked at Vulcan Quarry and Master Appliance before starting his own business in 1969: Miller – Weiss, Inc. John was an avid golfer, and he owned Bell Harbor Marina where he was very active and loved going out on the water. Earlier in 2024, John was lucky enough to have another chance at love with his fiancée, Opal Roberts.

John is survived by his sons, Michael Weiss, Jeffrey (Shyanne Cappozzo) Weiss, and Robert (Connie Desotell) Weiss; grandchildren, Alex, Zack, Tyler (Karyn), Brittany (Jacob), and Liaysa; great grandchildren, Levi James and Chase Elliot; and many other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen, his parents, and brother James W. Weiss.

A visitation will be held at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home on Monday November 4, from 12 noon to 2 p.m., with a memorial service beginning at 2. Burial and full military honors will immediately follow at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
