Union Grove – Joyce Eloine Chapman, 70, passed away on December 21, 2016 at Ascension All Saints Hospital in Racine. She was born November 9, 1946 to Ralph and Eloine (nee Barber) Chapman in Vancouver, Washington. She moved with her parents and brothers to a farm near Mesa, Washington. She was saved at 8 years old and later baptized by Pastor DeElda Payton when he was the pastor at First Baptist Church in Basin City and First Baptist Church in Connell. She participated in activities at the church. She was active in a 4-H club called the Basin Pioneers. She was active in Band at Connell High.

She graduated from Connell High School in 1964. Joyce graduated from Multnomah School of the Bible in Portland, Oregon with a three year diploma in 1967. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Washington State College, Cheney, Washington in 1971. She did substitute teaching before accepting a position at Haven Acres in Salem, Oregon. At Haven Acres she began working with mentally and physically challenged young people. In 1973 she applied to work at Shepherd's ministry and was accepted. She moved to Wisconsin in 1973 to work at Shepherd's Home in Union Grove as a house mother and caretaker. Joyce lived in several locations before renting and then buying the house on Vine Street in 1983. She shared that house with Talley Miner until she passed away. Joyce lived and worked at Shepherd's for 38 years before she retired in 2011. She ministered by playing the piano for the residents of Shepherd's Ministry. She was an active member in the Union Grove Baptist Church and felt that helping the residents at the Shephard's Home was her calling. She loved Jesus as her Savior, her vocation at Shepherd's, (residents and coworkers), her church and her family.

Joyce is survived by her brothers, Alan Chapman (Sherry) of Pendleton, Oregon and Glen Chapman (Christine) of Salem, Oregon.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and her brother James.

Memorial services will be held at the Union Grove Baptist Church, 417 15th Avenue, Union Grove on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 1 PM.
