Kurt Stephen Liederbach passed away in his home on February 3rd at 4:10PM at the age of 60. He was surrounded by his wife Elida, his daughter Jessica, and his son Ricky. Kurt was a gentle, patient, and loving man. He was a devoted father and husband. He was a mountain of quiet strength not just in his life but also in his death.

Kurt was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Richard and Mary Liederbach. Even as a small boy, he enjoyed riding his bicycle, being outside, and testing the limits of his own ability. Once, Kurt decided to ride his bicycle 200 miles from Union Grove to Peshtigo, Wisconsin in a single day. A licensed private pilot, Kurt would practice complete engine failure in his plane at night, trusting in his ability to recover. When he was 33 years old, he married Elida Saenz and they settled in Union Grove, Wisconsin in a big white farm house. He loved taking care of his family by keeping their home and lives in order. From fixing their vehicles to home repairs, no job was too big or small and nothing was "mickey-mouse" about it. Kurt enjoyed learning and was always up for a trip to the bookstore. A car-enthusiast, he collected issues of Hemmings Motor News. He loved to work with his hands, making his ALS diagnosis, at age 59, so life-altering.

Despite this, Kurt maintained a clear vision. Loving, giving, and cherishing life more than ever. Though his battle could never be won, Kurt would not be held down. In his last year of life, he walked every single day no matter what the weather forecasted. His walks included a special one down the aisle at his daughter's wedding. He visited favorite places such as the Debenham Cottage in Door County, Wisconsin where his family spent many summers together. Before bed, he listened to his favorite bands such as Dave Clark Five and the Electric Light Orchestra and would smile and feel peace. He willed his body to be strong even on the most difficult days, for the love and commitment to his family.

Though Kurt lost his brave battle with ALS, he left his family with his indomitable spirit that always persisted in the face of any struggle. He truly understood that being happy meant living life with love, gratitude, and grace.
