Leonard William Deden passed away on January 28, 2016. Born February 20, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois to Leonardus Sjoerd and Regina Elizabeth (Gibbenmeyer) Deden. His father immigrated to the U.S. from Bukhuizen, Friesland and his mother from Osnabruk, Germany.
He grew up in Chicago and upon graduation from Loyola Academy he entered the Marine Corps. Honorably discharged in August of 1946, he then attended Marquette University graduating in February 1951 as a Second Lieutenant and returned to active duty in the Marines.

In December of 1951, he was united in marriage to Irene A. Maier of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin at the Marine Corp Base, Quantico, VA. (Irene passed away January of 1998).

He was proud to be a combat veteran of the 5th Marines in Korea and also served 27 months of duty in Newfoundland. He was released from active duty in December of 1955 with the rank of Captain. He was proud to be a Mustang Officer.

Len spent 26 years as a management employee at Wisconsin Telephone Company, retiring in 1982. He also served on the Yorkville School Board for 16 years. He loved to travel, was an avid "rock hound" and taught Lapidary during the winter months in Arizona. In March 2001 he married Frances M. (Schacht) McNulty.

Len is survived by his wife, Frances; sons, William (Paula) Deden and Daniel (Linda) Deden; daughters, Kathryn Glass, Theresa (Daniel) Gallagher, Lisa (Rick Ward) and Angela (Ken) DeGroot; grandchildren, Brandon (Sarah) Deden, Ken J. (Jennifer) DeGroot, Kevin (Amanda) DeGroot, and Kelly Gallagher; great-grandchildren, Tyler Deden, Trent Deden, and Landon DeGroot; step-children, Michael (Barbara) McNulty, Kelly McNulty, Kai (Nancy) McNulty, Kim (Paul) Andersen; and step-grandchildren, Sarah and Amy McNulty and Keith (Breann) Andersen and Laura Andersen.
Len was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene; granddaughter, Maria; and son-in-law, Ted Dobbertin.

Visitation for Len's family and friends will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church on Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 10:30 am to 11 am. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 am. Burial with full military services will be the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove at 1 pm.

The family will donate any contributions in Len's honor to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital Transplant Center.
