Silver Lake - Marvel Lee Dixon (nee. Paasch), 81, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2018 at her home with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. She was born May 25, 1936 to Herman and Helen (nee Sandberg) Paasch in Burlington, WI. Her childhood years were spent in Rhinelander. She attended technical school in Lincoln, Nebraska and following that, worked for the railroad. Marvel worked at the Chicago Sun Times Newspaper as a Typesetter for over 30 years. Since her retirement 13 years ago, she was always busy doing something.

Marvel was known for her love of holidays and she celebrated each one as if it were Christmas. She enjoyed gardening, loved visiting nurseries, and being outdoors – one of her favorite places in the world was Northwind Perennials. Stray cats could always find a home with her.

She was a single mother who worked extremely hard for everything she ever had. Marvel never took charity; any favor anyone did for her, she forced them to accept payment.

Her home was built 115 years ago and Marvel was a third generation owner. Marvel was born in the midst of the Great Depression with a wood burning stove and outhouse. She paved a way for herself to become the amazing lady she was.

One of Marvel's greatest prides was her grand-daughter. Surprising Sarah and Bernadette in Madison would always cheer her up.

Marvel is survived by her daughter, Bernadette Lee (Dan) Hurd; granddaughter, Sarah Lee Hurd; and her four furbabies: Goldie, Butterball, Wiggles, and Midget.

Marvel was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Lesley Jeanne Wazelle.

Visitation will be held at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 4-6 pm. Memorial service will begin at 6 pm. Private burial will take place later.
