Wind Lake - On November 26, 2019, the world unexpectedly lost a warrior, Maurice Dean Wood, aka "Woody". Adoring and loving husband to Mary Wood (his "Babba"), dear father to Josh and William Wood, devoted step-father and friend to Chad and Bret, father-in-law and buddy to the "Beckys" and grandpa, "Grampy" and "Bibi Wodo" to Tessa, Hailey ("Pickle"), Hayden ("Buster") Hannah and Stella ("LaLa").  Maurice is also survived by his sisters Wendy (Cecil) Evans, Teresa (John) Buchanan and Stella (Sherman) Willoughby, his brother-in-law Clark Weber, many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles whom he cherished.  His furry companion, Macie was another love of his life.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Wood, Jr., and mother Nancy Wood.

Maurice proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry for 23 years, having served in Desert Storm and many years in Germany. "Big Wood" was, subsequently, a life member of VFW Post 11038 in Rochester, Wisconsin. Woody was also a National Officer of the DMZ/MC Burlington Wisconsin. For the last 15 years he worked as a paraprofessional for the Oak Creek/Franklin School District. It was there that he developed a passion for helping students, particularly those facing life's challenges. He recently participated in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight as a guardian for a dear friend. He said it was one of the highlights of his life. He also felt passionately about Veteran's Outreach of Wisconsin and the needs of homeless veterans and raised funds for them.

As a retired member of the DMZ motorcycle club Woody enjoyed the camaraderie that only a man can find with "brothers". Hunting and fishing were also activities that he intensely loved. As a matter of fact, he had over 100 fishing rods! He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 4th from 10:30am -12:30pm. Burial with full military honors will immediately follow at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
