Patrick Joseph VanDaalwyk

Union Grove – Patrick Joseph VanDaalwyk, 82, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on September 13, 2026. Born on January 4, 1944, in Wisconsin to parents Joseph and Marcella (Koerner) VanDaalwyk. Pat embraced life with an adventurous spirit and an unwavering love for nature. Known for his simple ways and deep connection to the great outdoors, Pat was an avid hunter and fisherman who never missed a deer hunting season. He cherished his time at the family cottage in Amherst, WI, a beloved haven that has been passed down through generations. Whether he was taking leisurely rides around town to spot wildlife or sharing stories with friends, Pat’s enthusiasm for the outdoors was infectious.

Pat was proudly involved in the Ghost Rods car club at KK Sports Arena, where he also worked alongside his father in the family business in Kaukauna, WI.

In 1969, Pat married his beloved wife, Janet (Welhouse), embarking on a lifelong journey together. Pat and Janet moved to Union Grove, WI where they managed Great Lakes Dragaway and raised their family. After 20 years at the dragstrip, Pat finished his career at Radyne Corporation in Milwaukee.

Later in years, Pat and Janet embarked on two unforgettable Alaskan cruises to experience the breathtaking landscapes of the North.

Pat is survived by his wife Janet; children, Brenda (Doyal) Abbott and John VanDaalwyk; grandchildren, Kyle Abbott and Logan (Maddie Smolko) Abbott, and great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Andréa. He is also survived by his siblings, Roger (Elaine) VanDaalwyk and Paul (Lori) VanDaalwyk, as well as many nieces and nephews who looked up to their uncle. 

Pat is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marcella VanDaalwyk; his siblings Karlyn (Hank) Therrien and Linda (Mark) Donnermeyer; and nephew, Joe. 

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held on Saturday, October 3rd, from 2-6pm at 1175 Sports Park located at 22840 Durand Ave, Kansasville, where family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories that defined this remarkable man. Food will be served.
