Peter John Gerovac passed away this Tuesday, June 20, at the dear age of 91. He began life on December 13, 1925 as a First U.S. Generation Croatian. He served the US Army in Germany during WWII and earned a Purple Heart. He almost died after taking a bullet near his heart. Prior to that he took a hit through his arm while carrying a wounded soldier back to camp. After the war he took up farming in Waterford for a few years and became a very skillful Mason. He fell in love with his lifelong companion, Jacqueline Rose Anderson in August 1958. He learned it was easier to tear things apart, and with a natural aptitude towards all things mechanical, he guided his talents towards his business, Atlas Wrecking, working into his 70's. As a thrifty person of the Depression, he built a large beautiful home on the remains of the many buildings he tore down. As a man of great story telling capacity, he made many friends while his family listened to captivating stories over Boch Beer or homemade Wine. Born in his family of 5, he is survived only by his sister, Josephine Gerovac. Peter is met by God after surviving the worst of all odds though a lifetime of tenacity few could muster, while staying strong to his integrity and always putting his family above himself. May those he touched carry on his inner strength. He never remarried after Jackie passed in 1986 as there was only one for him. His surviving family of five children (Rick(Michelle), Lisa(Mike), Joe(Laura), Burt and Craig(Chrissy)), 12 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren will sorely miss a man of so many talents with such love for his family and friends. Peter's great story will be heard many times over from 10AM – 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home at 620 15th Avenue, Union Grove, WI. A Memorial Service will begin at 11:30 AM.
