Union Grove - Robert J. Brock, age 89, died peacefully at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at Union Grove on September 12, 2019. He was born on May 4, 1930 in Milwaukee Wisconsin to parents John and Leila Brock (Freeman).

Bob served 4 ½ years in the Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Bennington. He survived two major explosions within a year on the carrier. He received a commendation for his bravery in the second explosion, helping injured sailors to the top deck so they could be airlifted for treatment.

Bob worked at Schlitz Brewery as a boiler operator and a refrigeration technician.

He was one of the first patients to have a heart bypass operation at the VA Milwaukee in 1979. In the 1990's, Bob was a member of a Phoenix peer support group made up of World War II and Korean veterans. The support group was instrumental as a basis for PTSD treatment nationwide.

He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars organizations, and marched in the drill teams at parades. He also volunteered at the VA Hospital- Zablocki in Milwaukee, as well as in Phoenix.

He was one of the founding members of the Milwaukee Chapter of Parents without Partners.  Bob enjoyed socializing, especially dancing. He was an excellent dancer and made sure that every lady in the room had a chance to dance.

Most of all, Bob was everyone's friend, and a very giving and generous person. He was always helping others. He loved making children and infants laugh.

He will be dearly missed.

Bob is survived by his daughter and close friend, Lauren Rick (Laura Brock), siblings Richard (Marilyn) Brock, James Brock, Brian Siegfried, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Marvel (Tom) Benedict, Paul Brock, and Charles Siegfried.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 12 noon, at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in the chapel, 21731 Spring St, Union Grove, WI 53182.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nursing staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home-Union Grove, for their patient and loving care over the years; Aurora At Home Hospice Staff; special friend, Beverly Koglin and Luanne Krall.
