Burlington – Robert C. Skyles, age 98, passed away on January 29, 2020 at Southpointe Healthcare Center. He was born on April 9, 1921 in Glenwood, IA to parents Walter and Florence (nee. Clements) Skyles.

On January 10, 1940, Bob joined the United States Navy and proudly served during World War II. He began his military service in the North Atlantic and later in the Pacific Theatre. Bob was stationed on many ships, including the USS Idaho - Battleship, USS Essex - Aircraft Carrier, USS SC-664 - Subchaser, USS S.C. 1277 - Subchaser, USS Lioba - Refrigerated Cargo, and the USS PCE 866 - Patrol Craft. When the war ended, Bob was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Bob left the Navy with the rank of Radioman First Class and was honorably discharged on January 9, 1946 in San Diego, California. For his service, he was awarded the World War II Victory and Good Conduct medals.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; children, Skip (Sara) Skyles and Peggy (Tony) Lena; grandchildren, Anthony II and Violet; brother, Richard (Joan); he was the favorite "Uncle Bob" to all.

Visitation will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church on Friday, February 7, 2020, from 9:30-11:30 am. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:30 am, officiated by Fr. Aurelio Perez. Burial with full military honors will immediately follow at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank all of the many wonderful medical staff, caretakers, and social workers who supported Bob in his final years, months, and weeks, including, but not limited to: Abby, Josie, Farrah, and Rachel from the VA; Cindy, Krista, Eileen, Lindsey, Sonya, and Chaplain Stephen from Allay Hospice; Steve, Ernest, Ruthine, Alicia, Tiffany, Rebecca, Asia, and Leonard from Southpointe; Sally and Peter from Comfort Keepers; and any others whose names may have been missed.  The care and compassion shown to Bob and his family is immensely appreciated.
