Roy F. Demant, age 98, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Aurora Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin after a brief illness.
He was born April 25, 1928, in Somers Township, a son of the late Louis and Clara (nee Sorensen) Demant.
Roy served his country in the United State Army during the Korean War and later settled in Yorkville, Wisconsin. He married his wife, Loretta (nee Dellis) on December 25, 1950, in Yorkville, WI. At the age of 8, he worked on the family farm while working with his father, hauling milk to area farmers, all while attending school. Racoon and fox hunting were bred into him from a young age. After the military he worked most of his years as a mechanic, also driving truck. He raised mink for a while and owned Demant Standard Service Station in Sturtevant. He retired from Flash Cab Company as a mechanic after shattering his ankles in a fall from a roof while helping his sons build pole barns. He was an avid, ethical deer hunter with many trophies from his 70 years of hunting. In his later years, he preferred to feed wild critters and birds by hand that came to his kitchen window, rather than hunt them. At the age of 98 he still answered questions correctly on Jeopardy, mowed his lawn, drove his truck and rode his four-wheeler around the property to enjoy the land he used to farm when he was young. He was a card carrying, proud, right-wing republican until the very end, and proudly American.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta in 2012, his sons, John Demant, Jerry Demant, and Larry Demant; his granddaughter, Elizabeth; his brothers, John Demant and Charles Demant; his sister, Dorothy Demant; his brothers-in-law, Roger Kaiser, George Dellis, and John Zisky; his sisters-in-law, Elna Demant, Carmen Kruchten, Geri Zisky, and Judy Rogers.
He is survived by three sons, Lee Demant (Patty), Dan Demant and Jay Demant; one daughter, Judy LaFrania (Mike); his daughter-in-law, Linda Demant; grandsons, Neil (Dee), Josh (Lauren), Nathan (Cara), Justin (Melissa), Brett (Amanda); granddaughters, Jenny (Tim) Williams, Jody (Chris), Vollmer Katie, Cheri (Damion) Oviedo, Traci (Ryan) Parker, Jeana (Mislav) Kovacic, Crystal (Damien) Rushing, Karen and Justin King; brother, George Demant, sister, Joyce Kaiser, brother-in-aw, Jim Dellis, sister-in-law, Nancy Dellis; 18 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; as well as so many nieces, nephews, friends, and cousins.
Living till his age with his sharp mind and wit was such a gift to all who knew him. He loved to brag that he was so old that his grandson is a grandfather. He was a moral, faithful, hardworking man who raised his kids by example. He had an amazing sense of humor and everyone who met him enjoyed and loved him.
The family would like to thank Aurora Medical Center in Mount Pleasant staff for the compassionate and understanding care he received during his stay, and his church family at Faith Bridge Church in Franksville for the visits and prayers that brought him safely and peacefully home.
So many stories, so many memories, so much love.
These Hands
Strong enough to launch bales of hay into lofts in the barn,
yet soft enough to comfort the kitten whose mamma had just died.
Strong enough to carry his new wife through the threshold of their first place,
Yet soft enough to stroke her face 65 years later as she lay dying.
