Sturtevant- Stephen R. Mortl, 66, passed away at his home on September 29, 2017. He was born December 30, 1950 to Robert and Phyllis (nee Phillips) in Racine, WI. He graduated from St. Sebastian grade school in 1965 and then Case High School in 1969. He won medals as part of the JV cross country team. He went on to attend Parkside College for a year before enlisting in the Army in 1970 ahead of the draft. After basic training in Fort Campbell, KY he was stationed in Okinawa, Japan until 1973. He was married briefly in 1977.

Stephen served two terms on the Sturtevant Board of Trustees in 1982 and 1984. He worked for many years as an award winning manager for Ponderosa Restaurants. After Ponderosa closed, he went on to work for Bonanza Restaurant in Racine and then Denny' s Restaurant, which he retired from.

Stephen is survived by his parents, Robert and Phyllis; his siblings, Jane Carlson, Donna (Randy) Cox, Ted (Debra) Mortl, and Tom Mortl; and nieces and nephews, Heather, Tiffany, Nicholas, Alexa, and Kyle.
Stephen was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Algot Carlson, Jr. And his sister-in-law, April Mortl.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6 from 10-11:30 am at Miller-Reesman Funeral Home. Prayer service will begin at 11:30 with full military honors to follow.
