Wayne Edward Elliott passed away at The View at Johnson Creek, WI at the age of 85 on December 23, 2020. He was born on December 12, 1935, in Milwaukee, WI to Edward and Ruth (Dugan). Wayne spent his very early years in Greendale. The family moved to the Brosen Manor neighborhood in the Town of Greenfield, now West Allis, where he attended Johnson school. He graduated from West Milwaukee High in 1954. After a very short apprenticeship as a printer-pressman he enlisted in the Navy and became an electronics technician aboard the Destroyer, USS Harlan R. Dickson (708) and saw the world. Wayne also served at the U.S. Radio Station adjacent to the Great Dismal Swamp on the Virginia-North Carolina border. Upon discharge from the Navy he attended the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on the GI bill for which he was forever grateful. He joined the Vets-Club and Delta Sigma Kappa fraternity where he met many lifelong "brothers".

He earned a BS in Education and later an MS in Counseling, and Certification in Educational Administration. After college graduation He applied for and received a direct commission in the Naval reserves and retired as a Commander. His 25 year career in the Milwaukee Public Schools began as a science and social studies teacher at Wilbur Wright Middle School. He then became a counselor at Juneau High School and a field counselor out of the Central office. His career in education culminated as assistant principal at Marshall High School, West Division and Rufus King High School for the College Bound.

Wayne's hunting and fishing career began with his uncles and family friends until he bought a cabin in Argon (near Crandon) and established a deer hunting camp for his family and friends. After some time spent remodeling the cabin he bought a dilapidated farm in the Town of Goodrich near Medford. There he completely remodeled the house (cabin style), planted thousands of pine trees, tended to the environment, and continued to host hunting camps. He made many friends in Argon and Goodrich. Wayne was an avid hunter of deer (gun and bow and arrow), turkeys, pheasants, and grouse. He shot many trophy deer over the years. His hunting and fishing trips generally included a group of friends. He fished Lake Erie where over the years he caught two trophy muskies, over 40 inches, and earned the Fish Ohio lapel pin awarded to approximately 1% of fishermen a year. He had one muskie mounted and the next year caught a bigger muskie and felt compelled to have it mounted as well. He also fished in the Gulf of Mexico and ice fished "up north" with friends.

He was a member of the Wauwatosa Curling Club for many years, the Clarence Bean-Warren George American Legion Post 67, Lake Mills, and a Sponsor of the Muskego Ducks Unlimited Chapter. Wayne enjoyed many winters in Florida. Wayne was one of the best story tellers ever and always had a story or two about every phase of his life, just ask any of his family or friends. He was also a pretty good joke teller.

He married Dolores (Dee) Crone Berthold on January 28, 1978. He is survived by his wife, children Charles (Jessie) Elliott, Bonnie Elliott both of Wauwatosa; grandchildren Sydney and Meagan Elliott and Corum Peterson, sisters Patricia Stephan and Carol Sue (Jim) Levinson, sisters-in-law Wynn Fish and Alice (Rick) Zeinemann, special nephew Mike Levinson and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law George Mueller and Eugene Stephan, nieces Erin Levinson Bauer and Laurie Mueller Weber.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 22, 2020 from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm, followed by full military honors and burial at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Lunch will take place after services. All arrangements allow for social distancing.
